Terry Morrow joined the Art Department at Texas Tech in fall of 1968. His teaching responsibilities covered the areas of printmaking and drawing. During his first two years at TTU, all classes were taking place in the (former) Architecture building and the memorable barracks. During 1981, Professor Morrow initiated the Saturday Morning Art Project (SMAP), an enrichment program for gifted and talented high school students within the Lubbock Independent School District. Terry assisted these students every other Saturday morning for over twenty-four years.

Over the years, Professor Morrow’s administrative service has served the art program very well. In 1984 Terry initiated a class at the Junction campus for gifted and talented high school art students from the Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma region. For approximately 15 years, he provided a week- long “summer camp” experience for these high school students. Soon thereafter he began to offer graduate printmaking and drawing classes at the Junction campus.

From 1985–1991, he served the Texas Association of Schools of Art (TASA) as a board member, officer, and President. In the late 1980’s he became an Accreditation Evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), with site visits to more than twenty universities to date.

In 2001, Professor Morrow was one of the principal initiators for the new College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), and in 2006 he spearheaded the development of the BA Degree in the School of Art. This past 2010 Maymester, he was one of the primary organizers and instructors for an interdisciplinary course involving Art, Music and Theatre/Dance students.

Professor Morrow’s artistic career is marked with his commitment for research as well as his dedication to students. His dedication continues to be an essential source of his journey. On one hand, his continued studio research and extended exhibition record has attested to his studio commitments over the years. Whereas, as a faculty member, one only has to speak to his former/present students and one can hear their appreciation and respect for Professor Morrow.

In addition to honoring Terry Morrow, unveiling will take place of  Donor Recognition Wall Panels honoring and thanking the many benefactors who have supported the School of Art and created scholarship endowments over the years.

Of course I’ll be there with bells on !!!!!! Terry Morrow is ” MR. ART ” to me. He encouraged this non-traditional student when others thought I’d quit. He sat down with me 6 years later to help me find the best avenue to use my abilities toward my MFA. Mentors often know their students better than we know ourselves. Terry Morrow is such a mentor. My sincerest thanks and congrats to a well deserving Gentleman.
